CONSUMPTION

As part of a global effort to reduce plastic pollution in our oceans, Warehouse 508 and the New Mexico BioPark Society partnered with local artist and educator Ophelia Cornet to create a large-scale oceanic creature out of recycled materials. "Consumption," a 12-foot pescado de basura, is part of the ABQ Aquarium's exhibit "Plastic Plague," created in celebration of World Ocean's Day, June 8th, 2015. Cornet, who teaches art at the Albuquerque Museum, worked with at-risk youth over three weeks to build a fish out of trash in the hope that the youth would begin to recognize the parallels between pollution in the body and pollution in the earth.
